An Implicit Surface Triangulator based on Exact Surface Curvature

چکیده
A technique for generating a triangular net from an implicit surface description is presented. This technique can be applied to 2-order differentiable functions describing the surface and is based on finding the principal curvatures at each generated point. It is therefore well adapted to the shape of the surface, taking more samples in the areas with high curvature. The triangular net is competed in a second phase where extra edges are added that connect the vertices already extracted.

High Quality, Curvature Dependent Triangulation of Implicit Surfaces
The paper describes an algorithm to generate a triangulation of an implicit surface. The generated triangles are close to equilateral and the triangle edge lengths vary with local surface curvature (the user may choose the ratio of edge length to surface curvature). The output of this algorithm is useful for applications that require high quality triangulations, such as medical imaging, molecul...
متن کاملLines of curvature and umbilical points for implicit surfaces
This paper develops a method to analyze and compute the lines of curvature and their differential geometry defined on implicit surfaces. With our technique, we can explicitly obtain the analytic formulae of the associated geometric attributes of an implicit surface, e.g. torsion of a line of curvature and Gaussian curvature. Additionally, it can be used to directly derive the closed formulae of...
متن کاملApplication of surface-derived attributes in determining boundaries of potential-field sources
This paper describes an edge detection method based on surface-derived attributes. The surface-derived attributes are widely used in the interpretation ofseismic datain two main categories: (1) derivative attributes including the dip angle and the azimuth; (2) derivative attributes including curvature attributes. In general, the magnitude of the normal curvature of a surface (curvature attri...
متن کاملCalculation of Velocity on an Implicit Surface by Curvature Invariance
Abstract: This paper presents an accurate method for computing the surface velocity which is used to advect the vertex in mesh-based surface tracking. We propose a curvature invariance condition that accurately captures the movement of a surface, especially in the case of rotating objects. The method uses the least-squares method and mesh fairing to solve the problem that the surface velocity w...
متن کاملStyle Nodes and Repolygonization for Hierarchical Tree-Based Implicit Surface Modelling
In this paper we present an extension to a hierarchical tree based implicit surface modelling system that includes interactively controlling style and appearance, and also creating a more accurate curvature based polygonal approximation. Multiple styles can be layered and applied to objects so that they are guided by local geometry although not strictly bound by it. To achieve this a new node, ...
